JOY TO THE WORLD!
December was an exciting month! The children enjoyed all our Christmas crafts, reading Christmas themed books, participating in group activities and of course using the Christmas themed Montessori Practical Life activities during the Montessori work cycles. Our school was decorated festively, we trimmed our class tree and enjoyed listened to many Christmas carols.
We learned a bit about Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas this month and did crafts and activities to support and ensure understanding of key elements of these festive holidays.
We enjoyed two cozy pajama days and read stories by the wood-burning fireplace! I took the children caroling in the neighborhood which was a truly special event. The neighbors were blown away by the children and their performance of singing Jingle Bells, while shaking percussion instruments (bells) and wearing Santa hats!
We had many discussions this month about the season of giving and how it is more important to experience the joy in giving rather than receiving. There was emphasis placed on giving through the class Kris Kringle experience. And as a regular and consistent focus, a huge emphasis was placed on feelings of happiness, gratefulness, manners, grace and courtesy.
Our annual Christmas shutdown allowed for a week of relaxation and family time for all. Season’s Greetings, Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2021!
