February Fun!
February went by quickly! But they do say that “time flies when you’re having fun!” We certainly enjoyed our time together in February!
The Montessori practical life activities were changed to red and pink this month! In French we learned about the word, “l’amour.” We used our fine motor skills to create fun crafts for Valentine’s Day.
Our main theme throughout the month of February was World Cultures. For this unit we dove deeper into information pertaining to countries found on the continents learned about in January. We also studied each of our own students’ cultural backgrounds and found our parents’ countries of origin on the map!
We had cultural dress up days where children dressed up in clothing that represented their cultural backgrounds and we carefully handled some items that are native to their cultures too.
Discussions around foods that are popular to different cultures are always interesting, and I attempted (and succeeded) to cook a variety of culturally specific meals each day that represented these cultures of the world. It certainly was an interesting and different meal plan and the children enjoyed the excitement around learning about each meal.
We tied the Family Day holiday into everything by discussing love for ourselves, our family members, how families celebrate holidays differently across different cultures, and more, and we contributed to our class Gratitude Jar.
We celebrated April-Jane’s 5th birthday this month which of course included a pizza lunch, dance party, the Montessori “Earth around the Sun” acknowledgement in circle time and other DMS Montessori specially organized activities for April-Jane’s special day!
Finally, we welcomed our new friend, Reese, to DMS Montessori Preschool and Daycare Inc!
