The month began with Easter. The practical life activities were changed to reflect the season of Spring and Easter, with activities containing bright colors, bunnies, and interesting eggs throughout the month of April. If children are provided with attractive activities that hold their interest they will concentrate much more on their work. Our practical life activities maintain interest with beautiful and creative practical life contents with each new month that passes! We had a huge Easter egg hunt in the classroom and counted all our eggs...and got to bring home some special treats!  

This month we also celebrated Travis’ and Reese’s 2nd birthday DMS Montessori Preschool and Daycare Inc. style with a pizza lunch and dance party! We always have fun celebrating birthdays and we ensure each child who celebrates gets special attention throughout their day. Of course, the birthday child also experiences opening a special gift from Mrs. Dina!

We thoroughly enjoyed learning all about space and the solar system for the last two weeks of April. This theme is always a class favorite! We “explored” the solar system by learning about the planets, and the sun. We learned the order of the planets and their names, and put our new knowledge to practice by creating a solar system mobile. We used out motor skills, cutting skills and gluing abilities to create this mobile.  We read books and sang songs.  We also made a space craft with an astronaut!  We learned about Earth day and discussed ways to help our planet. We usually go around the neighborhood to pick up litter on Earth day every year, but this year we decided against it due to the pandemic for obvious reasons!  We learned new vocabulary such as “orbit” and “revolve” when talking about how the Earth and other planets go around the sun. Every time we celebrate a birthday, we sing our “Earth goes around the sun” song, and with such, we made more connections by singing it while moving the Earth solar system model around the sun. We always make connections to events and other things we learn in the classroom like day/month/year (you have gone around the sun one time when you had birthday) when reviewing and learning about our themes. 

We said goodbye to our full-timer Matteo this month who blessed us with his presence for almost three years! Matteo is off to SK in September. We will celebrate his graduation in June virtually. We wish him and his family all the best! As usually, it is not goodbye but a “see you later!”
