May in Review

As we start the month of June, the last month of the school year, we reflect on the month of May and cannot help but think, “where did the month go?” May was filled with our usual fun as well as a mixed bag of treats weather wise! We enjoyed some summer-like weather with many days of outdoor water activities and play, as well as some wet rainy days that allowed for some nice walks in the light rain, worm-finding fun and discussions around rain formation and Spring weather variances. There is nothing more fun on a rainy day than jumping in puddles!

In May we learned about construction and gardening! For our construction theme we focused on power tools and construction machines. We played fun games like, name that power tool where I played an audio example of various tools and the children guessed what they are! Also, we saw real power tools to learn about their names through three-period lessons. And of course, the children practiced using a real hammer! We talked about the different structures that could be built by construction workers. We played dress up and played with construction related toys out in the sand and dirt! Oh, do the children ever love digging in the mud and dirt!

For our gardening theme, we planted cucumbers and flowers in our garden. We learned about what can be planted in a garden, how to take care of flowers, plants, fruits and veggies and what such things need to survive. We continue to water our garden every day and we cannot wait to see our veggies and flowers sprout and grow! We learned about the parts of the flower. We let our creativity bloom as we and made beautiful Mother’s Day crafts surrounding the garden theme in May.

In May we celebrated our favorite Golden Retriever dog’s birthday! Cooper turned six years old, and we had a cute little backyard birthday for him – each child fed him a mini dog treat and Cooper loved every minute of the attention!

Have a wonderful June, friends!
