September 2020 in Review : Welcome Back
This month we welcomed back our full-timers, part-timers and had some new friends join us! Welcome to DMS Montessori Preschool and Daycare Inc. Elisha and Ardaya! We also welcomed Eliana, our part-time volunteer. Two of our students, April-Jane and Matteo, stayed with us instead of heading off to JK which is quite exciting! Their senior CASA experience continues!
We have established and reviewed classroom routines and kicked off the new year with a new start to our programming. We were able to enjoy a lot of outdoor time in September thanks to the lovely weather! As usual, we took classroom learning into real life experiences in nature and supported our Apple Unit with a trip to the Apple Orchard for apple picking. We learned about the life cycle of an apple, the parts of the apple and what apple trees need to grow. Through songs, jingles, books, discussion and more, we were able to make connections to gain a solid and age-appropriate understanding of topics learned. We aim to take learning outside at every opportunity, and so we took story time, circle time and sensory activities outside almost every day in September.

Alice mastered how to independently zip a zipper this month! Our before and after school SK child, Kacey, mastered how to spell her last name in only a month of being with us! Luke, JK before and after school child, mastered how to write his own name! With solid COVID-19 precautions in place, we have adjusted well to a new reality of day-to-day life. We have collectively ensured the children’s safety through effective and transparent communication and strict compliance regarding policies and symptoms of illness by all parents and staff.
