We had a wonderful and fun-filled October!
The Montessori Practical Life activities have been changed up to reflect the season of fall and Halloween colors! Changing Montessori Practical Life activities to reflect broad themes helps to peak and maintain a high level of interest and fun for the children. It is as simple as changing out rice in the “spooning” activity to black and orange beads.Thanksgiving is always a great opportunity to reinforce kindness to all and to truly reflect about what we are thankful for. This month, we created a “Thankful Tree” for our classroom. We collected real branches and leaves outside and brought them inside to add to our tree. We traced our hands and wrote what we are thankful for on each cut-
out. Through much discussion, it was beautiful to hear the children saying that they are thankful for such things as their family, friends, brothers and sisters…and even Mrs.Dina!
We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin this month! The children can tell you all about the pumpkin, how and where pumpkins grow. We went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch to choose a pumpkin. We carved a class pumpkin and they each got to take a pumpkin home!
Lastly, what is Halloween without dressing up in our favorite costume? We certainly enjoyed our class dress up Halloween dance party and the many crafts and activities that supported the fall and Halloween themes this month.
